Robert G. Harrison
Water/Wastewater Superintendent
Village of West Liberty, Ohio

“Analysts from West Liberty have attended various Alloway seminars. We found the seminars to be invaluable. The time was well spent, the material was presented in a very organized and straightforward manner, and the instructors moved at a pace that was comfortable for the group. The seminars were also practical, as we were able to apply the learning in our own lab. Great seminars!”

Quality Assurance
Run Time: 29 minutes

Who will benefit: This course is targeted to the needs of laboratory supervisors, managers, field technicians, analysts and operators who perform laboratory measurements, or analysis in environmental laboratories, wastewater treatment plant, water plant, and commercial laboratories.
This course will benefit those who are responsible for the quality of laboratory data.

Learning Objectives:This training will introduce you to the process and procedures of proficiency testing in laboratories. You will learn when a PT is to be performed and why it is necessary. You will also learn how to report data for proficiency testing. You will learn about the different types of PT studies that are commonly available: WS, WP, and DMRQA. You will learn how blind standards are used in the PT process to ensure the accuracy of the reporting laboratory analyses. This video shows the proper procedures for the preparation of PT standards including full volume standards and other common PT standards to help ensure the highest level of accuracy. You will learn what types of laboratory glassware to use when performing PT analyses. This training will help you determine when it is necessary to re-analyze when performing proficiency testing to obtain accurate final results. You will also learn to report the results for the exact parameters requested in the instructions and on the report form. This course will prepare you for performing data review on PT studies by incorporating guidelines into a Standard Operating Procedure for that process. It instructs you how to report data using the Data Report Forms or via electronic data reporting by listing all the information that must be contained in the report. You will learn best practices to follow to ensure the accuracy and precision of test methods performed. You will learn how to initiate procedures to measure the accuracy of tests by analyzing known standards or check standards. You will also learn what corrective action is and the important role it plays to resolve issues and generate the most accurate data possible.

Course Description: This training explains the procedures for Proficiency Testing that are required by State or Federal Programs that mandate certification for drinking and/or wastewater. This course defines and explains the PT studies that are commonly available including WS, WP, and DMRQA. You will learn how PT standards are used in several different PT studies. This training will show you how the PT standards should be analyzed and what data needs to be reported for a PT study. You are also instructed when dilutions should be re-analyzed and how to arrive at a most accurate reading.  This video explains the importance of using specific grades and types of glassware with PT analyses. This course will guide you through the process of data review and data validation prior to releasing the results to the PT provider. It also covers guidelines to consider for incorporation into your SOP for performing data review on PT studies. These suggested guidelines include a list of information to be contained on the final Data Report Form. This training also shows the importance of implementing procedures to measure the accuracy of tests by analyzing known or check standards. Beginning analysts, experienced analysts, plant operators and specifically those involved with laboratory testing and the use of laboratory equipment will benefit.
