Laboratory Equipment
Run Time: 23 minutes
Who will benefit: This course is targeted to the needs of laboratory supervisors, managers, field technicians, analysts and operators who perform laboratory measurements in environmental laboratories, wastewater treatment plant, water plant, and commercial laboratories.
This course will benefit those who are responsible for the quality of laboratory data.
Learning Objectives: This video will help you provide documentation of equipment used to provide various analyses which include: thermometers, balances, pH meters, DO meters, turbidity meters, and colorimeters. You will learn how to read a thermometer correctly as well as the calibration requirements for most accurate readings. You will be instructed in the process to correctly calibrate an electronic balance. You will see proper documentation techniques to accurately record your verification. The proper procedures for calibrating a pH meter will be demonstrated in detail. You will learn to use a pH electrode to calibrate the pH meter using buffers and you will learn to check the calibration slope against manufacturer/laboratory limits. You will see the proper steps for calibrating a Dissolved Oxygen probe using air calibration. You will learn routine maintenance tips for the DO probe to receive the best results. You will learn the definition of turbidity and see how a turbidity meter is used for that analysis. You will also learn best practices for performing that test in the laboratory. You will see what is involved in performing tests with a spectrophotometer and learn about the calibration process and procedures that are used with that laboratory equipment.
Course Description: This training video takes you through the detailed process of calibrating several pieces of laboratory equipment that is used in laboratory determinations. While showing you proper documentation of calibration verification, it also demonstrates the methods used in the calibration process. Upon completion of this course, you will be familiar with specific requirements for calibration and the procedures of calibration on thermometers, balances, pH meters, DO meters, turbidity meters, and colorimeters. Beginning analysts, experienced analysts, plant operators and specifically those involved with laboratory testing and the use of laboratory equipment will benefit.
