Course Description
We designed our spring courses to address customers’ frequent trouble spots: performing basic environmental chemistry, preparing for an audit, measuring flow, and maximizing software capabilities. This workshop consists of four “sneak peaks” of our upcoming courses. The day will be informative, and you will earn 6.0 free contact hours. If you decide you want to know more about a topic, you can register for the full-length version.
Learning Objectives
This workshop will preview four new courses. Although abbreviated versions of full-length courses, these 1.5-hour sessions are filled with useful information for operators and analysts.
- In the session “Basic Flow Measurements” participants will review basic flow calculations and conversions, including open-channel calculations (Manning Formula), measuring flow using v-notch and rectangular weirs, and flow-proportioned composite sampling. The session will highlight the advantages/disadvantages of different measuring devices and methods.
- “Basic Environmental Chemistry” will cover the fundamentals of conversions, solutions, balancing equations, and chemical reactions. Bring your calculators for this refresher course in environmental chemistry.
- In the third session, learn about a powerful software package you already own: Microsoft Excel. “Using Excel to Support Laboratory and Plant Operations” will cover the basic functions of Excel, including formulas and sorting, and transition into more advanced uses.
- Finally, get an inside look into the auditing process in “Auditing the Environmental Laboratory: A Practical Checklist and Field Guide.” This course will alert you to the key criteria auditors check for and give you tips for making sure your lab (or your contract lab) will make the grade.
