Environmental Sampling Seminar
One Day: 6.25 Contact Hours
Two Days: 12.75 Contact Hours
Sampling Protocols and Their Role in Generating Defensible Data
"Sampling Protocols and Their Role in Generating Defensible Data" is a comprehensive and in-depth review of sampling protocols, including pre-sampling preparations, sampling procedures, and post-sampling follow-up. Specific topics include: personnel training and safety, equipment calibrations, paperwork and documentation, bottle preparation, site accessibility, representative sampling, and much more. This workshop addresses sampling protocols for low level mercury, bioassay, and 2F storm water.
Who Should Attend
This course satisfies the needs of operators, field technicians, and those who perform wastewater sampling. Those responsible for sampling techniques and quality assurance in the field - plant operators and superintendents, consultants, and industrial environmental engineers - will also benefit from this course.
Course Description
The Environmental Sampling Seminar is a two-day sampling program. It is offered as a one-day seminar or a two-day seminar with Day 1 as the prerequisite to Day 2. This program provides the latest concepts and ideas for wastewater sampling and combines lecture with field work for a dynamic, hands-on experience. Coursework covers a range of sampling techniques, including grab and composite sampling, low level mercury, bioassay, and storm water sampling.
Learning Objectives
This course provides an in depth, hands-on approach to wastewater sampling techniques. Upon completion, participants will understand the importance of designing and implementing a defensible sampling program, and they’ll have the practical skills and knowledge to support the program and produce defensible data.
In this course, participants will:
•Learn NPDES terms that can help you avoid permit violations
•Identify safety hazards on the job
•Get the right bottle with the correct preservative - every time
•Understand hold times and analytical requirements to avoid costly "lab accidents"
•Discover why documentation is critical: "If it is not written down, it didn't happen"
•Find out what makes a sample "representative"
•Prepare to perform measurements in the field - chlorine, pH, Dissolved Oxygen, and conductivity
•Learn why the "clean hands - dirty hands" technique may be essential for low level mercury collection
•Master bioassay sampling with techniques that save you money
