Laboratory Supervisor - 2nd Shift (Marion)

Position Description

Summary of Position and Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise second shift team members at the Marion facility
  2. Management of personnel, quality control and timeliness of data
  3. Coordinate laboratory resources to meet customer needs
  4. Communicate effectively with direct reports as well as management
  5. Lead the defined sections by motivating, building trust and retaining key employees

Reports To:

Laboratory Manager

Specific Duties:

  1. QA/QC Duties
    1. Assist the QA Officer with QC assignments and monitor progress
    2. Review Quality Control protocols and ensure procedures are followed
    3. Ensure standard operating procedures are followed
    4. Review routine reports and/or special project reports for accuracy, completeness, timeliness
    5. Sign and certify routine reports and/or special project reports
    6. Review projects and related reports for consistency of data, accuracy, completeness and timeliness
  2. Managerial Responsibilities
    1. Operate the defined sections profitably
    2. Prepare employee work schedule and post
    3. Coordinate and prioritize daily duties
    4. Plan and facilitate special projects (check pricing, bottle and preservation requirements, project management)
    5. Coordinate lab activities
    6. Review backlog reports daily for due dates and scheduling
    7. Conduct performance evaluations
    8. Responsible for completion of work in designated areas
    9. Approve employee vacation
    10. Determine the number of employees needed with management approval
    11. Develop employee knowledge and skills
  3. Business Duties
    1. Provide telephone support with customers regarding projects and complaints
    2. Assist in business development through lab visits, lunches and site visits
    3. Present at conferences and seminars
  4. Analytical Duties
    1. Assist as needed in supervised areas and other advanced lab analyses
    2. Provide training and oversight to personnel in specific area of supervision
    3. Provide Quality Assurance Officer with updates of quality and performance problems
    4. Assist with workload and evaluate workload by participating in analyses

Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in physical, chemical, environmental, biological or engineering sciences and/or the minimum of experience specified below

Experience Requirements:
At least six years of experience in the analysis of environmental samples for organic and inorganic analytes
An advanced degree may be substituted for two years of experience
